You dont debark yew for drying, just leave the bark on, it peels off after some time, but it "will" crack somewhere, you can bet on it.If it doesnt crack when drying, you will find grain separation...

Jaro, then it should be the native yew. Perhaps the soil conditions made it the way it is? Have you tried yew from other localities?It just sounds so strange the yew you have should be so different...

I have it!!! the branch is not round but rather elyptical 3" X 4" in wider part. Sapwood is only 1/4'' thick. Is it good?? it is about 4' long..... so far longer than needed for split in the handle...
